TINSUKIA: At a glittering ceremony held at Dr Bhupen Hazarika Samannay Khetra, Thana Chariali Tinsukia on Friday evening, the 7th E-Media Awards, 2019, instituted by E-Media Forum Tinsukia, were presented to 15 Durga Puja committees of Tinsukia.

The selection was based on three criteria like Best Puja, Best Pratima and Best Mandap in three different groups, besides traditional puja mandaps and jury awards. The E-Media Awards were presented in presence of MLA of Tinsukia Sanjay Kishan, Additional SP Asif Ahmed, Saroj Gohain, president of Tinsukia Press Club, and Dr Rishi Das, president of Tinsukia District Journalists’ Association.

Besides felicitating two senior journalists – Himen Bhattacharjee and Satish Bhattacharyya on the occasion – the organizers also felicitated Dipak Tamuli, Inspector of Tinsukia Police Sadar Thana, and Hiranya Borah, Traffic Inspector, for their efficiency in maintaining law and order and traffic in Tinsukia town during the Puja days.

In his brief address, MLA Sanjay Kishan, while appreciating E-Media Forum for generating a sense of competitiveness among various puja committees, called upon them to be more concerned about Swachh Bharat Abhijan. Dr Rishi Das opined that extensive use of thermocol and toxic dyes used in decorating pandals and in making of idols created severe environmental hazards. He requested Puja committees to discard these non-biodegradable materials.

While Chaliha Bordoloi Nagar Sarvajanin Durga Puja Samity, Nau-Pukhuri Sarvajanin Durga Puja Samity and Marwari Durga Puja Samity received in Best Puja, Best Pratima and Best Mandap awards respectively in Group A category, Durgabari Puja Samity and Tamulbari Durga Puja Samity bagged the Best Traditional Puja and Jury Awards respectively.
