SEWA organizes COVID relief distribution programme in Dibrugarh

DIBRUGARH: Socio Educational Welfare Association (SEWA) organized a ceremonial COVID relief distribution function on Monday in Dibrugarh to commemorate the 88th birth anniversary of Late Shanti Gogoi, founder president of SEWA. The function was chaired by ADC to the Dibrugarh Development Council, Partha Pratim Boiragi. The function was graced by ex CJI Ranjan Gogoi, his wife and Rajya Sabha MP Rupanjali Gogoi, former president of Axom Xahitya Xabha Dr Nagen Saikia and SEWA president Nandita Hazarika.

Under COVID relief distribution, a multi-purpose financial help of Rs 3000 each has been provided to 80 COVID affected families of Dibrugarh Urban, selection of which has been made by following a due carefulness process with the help of Health Department.

Further, SEWA press release stated that another 80 poor and vulnerable families were also given dry food and hygiene kits. Earlier under the same programme, 4000 beneficiaries also served cooked food at Assam Medical College Hospital.

On the occasion of the 88th birth anniversary of founder president of SEWA, Late Shanti Gogoi, ,eminent citizens like former principal of DHSK College Dr Raji Konwar, Senior Advocate and Chairperson of ATPA, Dr Nazrana Ahmed, Asst. Prof DHSK College Dr Partha Ganguly recalled her excellent leadership qualities and the numerous initiatives taken under her guidance for a better future of the marginalized sections of the society. Her contribution towards the uplift of society was fondly remembered.

Partha Pratim Boriagi paid glowing tributes to Late Shanti Gogoi & recalled her sterling qualities of head and heart. Former President of Axom Xahitya Xabha Dr Nagen Saikia also spoke on the social work activities initiated by Late Shanti Gogoi and her contribution in the literary field where she authored four books. Her work for empowering women through her organization SEWA was also recalled. She was awarded the Labanya Hazarika Adarsha Matri Award in 2013.

During the meeting, SEWA also announced its COVID Emergency Response programme where SEWA will provide Rs 7500 as financial assistance to 52 poor and marginalized farmers to revive their farm activity during the upcoming Rabi season. 270 poor and marginalized women farmers will also be provided financial assistance.
