SILCHAR: After at least three decades, the Barak Valley Co-ordination Committee of BJP was formed with Silchar MP Dr Rajdeep Roy as chairman and Kanad Purkayastha as the secretary general. 31 years ago, the coordination committee was first formed in Barak Valley with former Union Minister Kabindra Purkayastha as the chairman and former MLA late Bimalangshu Roy as the secretary general. Rajdeep is the son of Bimalangshu Roy while Kanda is the son of Kabindra Purkayastha. After the death of Bimalangshu Roy, senior party leader Nitya Bhushan Dey was made the secretary general of the coordination committee. The new committee had both Purkayastha and Dey along with former MLA of Karimganj Mission Ranjan Das as the advisors while Sudip Chakrabarty and Raj Kumar Das would represent Karimganj and Hailakandi respectively as secretaries.

The newly formed coordination committee would soon meet Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to discuss the Shillong violence where Bengali Hindus and other non tribals were targetted during a rally brought out by a Khasi outfit. Further the committee would discuss with Sarma the issue of Dolu TE where a greenfield airport was proposed to be built. Rajdeep said, various development projects had instilled faith among the people on the BJP government and the coordination committee would continue its work in accordance with the positive approach of the party.
