TEZPUR: In view of the COVID -19 situation in the district, the Sonitpur district administration has declared that all shops dealing with sale of groceries, vegetables, meat, eggs and dairy products will remain closed from 5 AM of July 8 and also necessary steps and measures will be taken to contain COVID-19 in the district.

It was decided that no movement of persons or vehicles will be allowed during curfew hours. All shops/ commercial establishments, including shops dealing with groceries, fruits and vegetables, dairy and milk products will remain closed. Only home delivery of all such items has been allowed by the district administration. All weekly markets/ bazaars will remain closed and Circle Officers will ensure home delivery service in areas under their respective jurisdiction.

All heads of departments were directed to continuously update the Deputy Commissioner about the action taken on various issues throughout the day. All executive magistrates have been detailed to look after enforcement of COVID protocol in their respective areas of jurisdiction and to keep an eye on the delicate situation in tea gardens of the district. Strict enforcement in containment zones is to be ensured with round-the-clock security. All magistrates and officials have been asked to maintain coordination with police, excise, DTO and Superintendent of Police to depute additional teams on the ground and mobilize paramilitary forces to bring the situation under control and ensure strict compliance of all COVID-19 protocol. All Circle Officers and BDOs have been asked to ensure distribution of food packets in containment zones.

The administration has instead activated the home delivery of all such essential items through vendors to be deputed area-wise, so that the people remain indoors during the lockdown period in order to bring the COVID situation in the district under control.
