SI Exam Scam: Assam Police arrests senior Congress leader

Guwahati: The Nalbari Police on Sunday night apprehended senior Congress leader Atab Ali in connection with the Assam Police Sub Inspector Examination scam. This comes amid massive protests being held by the Congress party in different parts of Assam.

The Nalbari Police launched an operation in Bajali, Bhabanipur, Majgaon areas, and finally nabbed Ali from Barpeta at around 2 am. The Assam Police recovered an admit card of the SI recruitment examination from his residence.

As per police sources, Ali, a senior Congress leader who is also the secretary of the RTI Cell has contact with the other accused in the Assam Police SI recruitment scam. Many congress leaders are also suspected to be involved in the job scam.

Currently, Ali is with the Nalbari Police and further interrogation is on.

This would be the 23rd arrest in the job scam. However, retired senior police official P K Dutta one of the prime accused in the scam is still absconding.

The job scam came to light when the SI exams to fill 597 posts had to be canceled within minutes of starting the exam as the question paper was leaked. The exam was held on September 20 and around 66,000 candidates sat for the exam.

The exams are scheduled to be held on November 22.
