Sibsagar Commerce College conducts Rural Livelihood Promotion Programme

SIVASAGAR: To commemorate the glorious 75 years of independence of India and to celebrate Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, the Sibsagar Commerce College and Delihi Dhai Ali High School undertook various activities on August 5.

In the morning of August 5, Dr Saumarjyoti Mahanta, Principal of Sibsagar Commerce College, flagged off the Chief Minister's Institutional Plantation Programme (CMIPP) and accordingly, the faculty members, NSS & NCC volunteers and student union members planted various medicinal plant at three different schools, namely Paloshani LP School, Jayarpar LP and MV School and Delihi Dhai Ali High School.

Shortly after the plantation programme ( CMIPP), the volunteers of NSS, UBA & NCC unit conducted a dual programme of 'Rural Livelihood Promotion Programme' and 'Har Ghar Tringa Awareness Programme' in five revenue villages of Desangpar Gaon Panchayat, namely Nawojan and Namatial Pathar, Gohain Gaon and Paloshani, Jayarpar, Kowamora Handique and Akhoiphutia village. In this programme, village heads, Gaon Panchyat members, school teachers and most importantly, the villagers took part spontaneously and made the programme a success.

In the afternoon, a highly interactive and lively discussion session on 'Promotion of Rural Livelihood with special focus on Animal Husbandry' was organized at the auditorium hall of Delihi Dhai Ali High School in presence of 100 villagers of Desangpar Gaon Panchayat and a large numbers of teachers from different LP, ME and High schools of surrounding areas. The objective and theme of the interactive session was briefed by Dr Ratul Dutta, coordinator NSS and UBA unit of Sibsagar Commerce College and the resource person, Dr Akshyavat Kesari, District Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Officer, Sivasagar, narrated different imitatives taken by the Government of Assam and the Animal Husbandry Department for promotion of animal husbandry activities in Assam and especially appealed to the villagers to apply for Kisan Credit Card meant for development of the Animal Husbandry segment of Assam. He also advocated for a revolutionary mindset for rural livelihood promotion through investing and cultivating on animal husbandry.

The chairman of the open session, Dr Saumarjyoti Mahanta highly praised the efforts of NSS, UBA and NCC units. He also promised to hand over a detail technical report of the survey to the district administration, Sivasagar, and higher authorities of respective departments for appraisal and action taking.
