SIVASAGAR: The Sibsagar University Students' Union (SUSU), 2025-26, organised Freshman Social 2026 at Sibsagar University on Saturday, welcoming newly admitted students with a programme of motivation, cultural performances and camaraderie.
The programme began with the University Anthem and Freshers' Song, followed by the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by Vice-Chancellor Prof Mahadev Patgiri. General Secretary Debanga Protim Gogoi welcomed the freshers.
In his motivational address, Vice-Chancellor Prof Patgiri emphasised the importance of a positive and supportive environment for students to flourish. Drawing an analogy with flowers that bloom with proper soil, water and care, he urged the students to cultivate knowledge, discipline, positive thinking and responsible choices.
Registrar Dr Profulla Ch Kalita encouraged the students to make the best use of the opportunities available at the university and pursue their goals with dedication. Samiran Phukan, Secretary of the All Assam Students' Union and an alumnus of Sibsagar University, urged the students to remain positive and contribute to the development of the university.
The event featured colourful cultural performances by university students, while renowned Assamese singer Diplina Deka enthralled the audience with her musical performance. Four students were also felicitated for their outstanding achievements in different fields.
The programme was attended by Academic Registrar Dr Tridib Mahanta, DSW Diganta Bora, Teachers' Union President Dr Bokul Chandra Pator, faculty members, officials, students and invited guests.
The Freshman Social concluded on an enthusiastic note, inspiring the newcomers to embrace university life with positivity, discipline, creativity and responsibility.
