Signatories of BTR accord receive rousing welcome in Kokrajhar

Kokrajhar: Arousing welcome ceremony for the signatories of the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) Accord was held at Kajalgaon in Chirang district on Tuesday. They were felicitated and several hundreds of people thronged Kajalgaon for the event.

The president of ABSU, Promod Boro, president of NDFB (P), Gabinda Basumatary, speaker Sunil Basumatary, former Rajya Sabha MP Urkhao Gwra Brahma and others were warmly welcomed at Kajalgaon. They reached Kajalgaon from Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport on Tuesday to attend the welcome ceremony.

Addressing the gathering, the president of ABSU, Promod Boro said they singed the BTR accord to bring total peace and progress in the region. He said the Bodo belt witnessed a lot of trouble in the last three decades and therefore, the student body wanted the solution of the Bodo problems.

Boro said the government of India had assured to implement all the clauses of the new accord in letter and spirit. He said it was up to the Government of India to implement all the clauses and if the government failed to keep its promise than the student body would be compelled to go back on the path of democratic agitations further said there had attempted to divide the Bodos and hence the ABSU laid stress on the peace accord. Former Rajya Sabha MP Urkhao Gwra Brahma said the new accord would fulfill the aspirations of the Bodos as it included many projects and financial package. He also said there was a provision of inclusion and exclusion of villages in the new accord. On the other hand, a similar welcome ceremony was also held at Barbari in Baksa district where NDFB (D) faction Dhiren Boro, minister Chandan Brahma, MLA Thaneswar Basumatary and Moneswar Brahma and BTC EM Ansumwi Khunggur Boro were welcomed and felicitated.
