Silchar: The Cachar BJP district president Bimalendu Roy had constituted a six member committee following massive resentment in the party regarding the ward delimitation as well as reservation for the newly-formed Silchar municipality corporation. The committee, headed by former Ward Commissioner, would submit its report after the voter list for the 42 wards which would go for election for the first time  after the Silchar Municipality Board had been upgraded as a corporation.

The reservation for women and SC was recently finalized through lottery system by the District Commissioner in presence of the representatives of all the recognized political parties. However the reservation pattern triggered resentment among the various parties. But this could not affect the reservation of the wards as the representatives of all the parties were present during the lottery. Resentment was obvious  in the ruling party as a section of the aspiring candidates were denied a chance to contest the election as their wards were reserved. In this backdrop, the district BJP president Roy had constituted a committee which would supposedly review the basis of resentment. However, a section of the aggrieved members of the ruling party seemed to believe that the committee formation was a mere eyewash as the ward reservation had already been finalized. The six member committee would be headed by Gopal Kanti Roy, a former  Commissioner whose ward had already been reserved for woman. The other members of the committee included Chameli Paul, Abhrajit Chakrabarty, Gitan Nath, Sounitra Kumar Deb and Rajesh Kumar Das.
