Silchar: Braving the foggy and cloudy sky, Silchar shines in offering its reverence to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose on his 129th birth anniversary in a befitting manner. Locals of all the streets arranged programmes of various scales to pay tributes to the great freedom fighter. The main programme, organised by the Central Netaji Birth Anniversary Celebration Committee, began with a morning procession which began from the Narsingtola ground. Spontaneous participation of the students of various schools as well as the members of clubs and organisations made the procession a colourful one. The procession terminated at India Club ground where the main programme was held. Professor Manabendra Dutta Choudhury, the Vice  Chancellor of the Rabindra Nath Tagore University of Hojai hoisted the flag. The daylong programme witnessed a parade by the students, mass yoga, book release. 

Another attraction of the day was the programme organized by the Netaji Subhash Foundation. Meanwhile, the statue of Netaji at Rangirkhari Point had been shifted to the Gandhibag as a new statue would be set there. Local MLA Dipayan Chakrabarty who was leading the venture of setting up the new statue, being made at Mysore, said this year people would offer their floral tribute at Gandhibag where the old statue had been temporarily shifted. 

State Linguistic Minority Development Council organised Parakram Diwas to mark the birth anniversary of Netaji at the GC College auditorium. Minister Kaushik Rai, former MLA of Hojai as well as the chairman of the Linguistic Minority Development Council Siladitya Deb were the main speakers at the functions. Highlighting various aspects of Netajit they stressed the relevance of the sacrifice the great freedom fighter made for his motherland.
