SIVASAGAR: In an effort to enhance road safety and curb the increasing number of road accidents, the Sivasagar District Road Safety Committee convened its monthly meeting for July on Wednesday. The meeting was chaired by the District Commissioner of Sivasagar, Aayush Garg, and was held at the Sukafa Conference Hall of the DC office.

The session witnessed an in-depth and wide-ranging discussion on proactive and preventive measures to address road safety challenges across the district. With representatives from all stakeholder departments in attendance, the meeting aimed to chalk out a coordinated action plan to minimize road accidents and ensure public safety.

One of the major highlights of the meeting was a comprehensive analysis of road accident data from January to June 2025. The committee reviewed the number of incidents, causes behind accidents, locations with high accident frequency, and patterns observed in recent months. The analysis provided a data-driven foundation for planning targeted interventions.

The committee expressed serious concern over accident-prone stretches of road and emphasized the need for immediate identification and repair of these dangerous spots. Officials discussed measures such as installing adequate signage, improving road conditions, deploying traffic personnel at critical junctions, and upgrading infrastructure where necessary.

A significant proposal endorsed during the meeting was the installation of speed cameras in high-risk zones where repeated accidents have been reported. These surveillance systems are expected to help in regulating vehicular speed, monitoring traffic violations, and ultimately reducing the number of road mishaps.

District Commissioner Aayush Garg reiterated the importance of department-wise accountability and instructed all departments associated with the road safety committee to actively execute their roles. He urged the departments to ensure regular monitoring, maintenance, and public awareness campaigns related to traffic rules and safety.

The committee resolved to continue its commitment to achieving the vision of “Zero Fatality” by maintaining stringent safety protocols and encouraging inter-departmental collaboration. Departments were advised to maintain clear documentation and timelines for the execution of road safety-related tasks.

Superintendent of Police Shubhrajyoti Bora, District Development Commissioner Samiran Bora, Assistant Commissioner Chandana Kuruganti Jahnabi, Executive Engineer of the PWD (Roads) Department Prakash Pegu, and other senior officers and departmental representatives were also present in the meeting.
