NAZIRA: Despite government directives, members of Sivasagar Anchalik Panchayat and village panchayats are yet to receive their honorarium for the period of 2013-2018. A total of Rs 46,34,71,141 was sanctioned by the state government for 21 districts, but many panchayats have not received the payment.
In Sivasagar district, the Anchalik Panchayat members have received no payment despite a directive from the Deputy Commissioner and Executive Officer of Zilla Parishad. A group of members submitted a memorandum to the authorities, seeking intervention to release the payment. The members have been forced to run from pillar to post to get their due payment, which has been pending for years. The delay has raised questions about the role of officials responsible for disbursing the funds.
