Haflong: Six people from Dima Hasao who had travelled in a train with the recent COVID -19 patient of Hailakandi, were put into the quarantine facility in Haflong by the district administration on Thursday.

Out of six, five are reported to be residents of Haflong and one from Mahur which is around 28 km from Haflong. Joint Director, Health & Family Welfare, Dr. Dipali Barman said that all the six persons had been placed in quarantine facility for observation purpose as they were in close proximity to a positive case which was detected earlier and therefore considered as high risk.

She stated, “All these people belong to age group of 20 to 30 years and are all healthy and showing no signs of virus infection. However, it is advisable to take all precautions and people should religiously follow all the norms laid by the administration.”

Stating her concern about people’s reaction in Dima Hasao, Dr. Barman also added that although there had been repeated requests by the health workers and administration, people still seem to enjoy coming outside their homes unnecessarily, which was a very scary indication for the district.

Deputy Commissioner Amitabh Rajkhowa said that the six people had been placed in quarantine as per COVID-19 protocol and necessary procedure would be undertaken to examine them to ensure that the district remains free of COVID-19 virus. Further requesting all the people to follow the advisories, DC said that people should not use the social media platform to confuse or misguide people during situations like this. Flooding social media platforms regarding the outbreak of COVID-19 without cross examining the source may lead to legal action against the person. There are as many as 59 cases registered and around 35 people arrested for spreading rumours and posting objectionable comments.
