AZARA: Rajya Sabha MP Ajit Kumar Bhuyan on Wednesday asserted that six Opposition political parties have united strongly, with the aim of removing the BJP from power in Assam.
Addressing a large election meeting at Jarapata playground in Barduar Bagan under the 29 No. Palasbari Legislative Assembly Constituency (LAC), Bhuyan said that the growing momentum of the Opposition campaign ahead of the Assembly election indicated that the BJP's hold on power was weakening.
The election meeting was organized by the Barduar Bagan Land Patta Demand Committee in support of Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) candidate Pankaj Lochan Goswami, who is backed by the Opposition alliance. The meeting was presided over by committee President Gobinda Rabha.
In his speech, Bhuyan launched a sharp attack on the ruling BJP government and Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, stating that after touring various parts of Assam and interacting with people, he is convinced that the BJP has no chance of survival this time. He further remarked that this is not the time for mere criticism, but the time to bid farewell to the BJP.
Earlier, in his welcome address, Aditya Rabha, Chief Adviser of the Land Patta Demand Committee, raised several local issues, including the proposed satellite township in Borduwar, the Kulsi river embankment, and the Dora Beel area. Criticizing the government, he questioned how people could safeguard their dignity without land rights and expressed concern over the alleged loss of valuable land for meagre compensation.
Rabha also criticized the government over recent eviction drives, questioning continued support for the BJP among certain sections despite such actions. He urged voters to reject the BJP and support AJP candidate Pankaj Lochan Goswami by casting their votes in favour of the party's symbol.
Speaking at the rally, Goswami emphasized that true nationalism could not be completed without the participation of tribal communities. He said that gaining the trust and confidence of indigenous people has strengthened his belief in genuine regional nationalism.
