GUWAHATI: 

Six universities are to be set up in Assam under Tejasvi Navadhitamastu Edu-Infra Funds (TNEIF).  This scheme was launched in the 2017-18 budget to re-imagine and re-structure higher education in the state. 

Each of the six institutions to be established under the Tejasvi Navadhitamastu Edu-Infra Funds (TNEIF) would receive a budget allocation of Rs 8 crore (2021-22), Rs 22 crore (2022-23), and Rs 20 crore (2023-24).  

New Universities Setup in Assam

The six universities that are to be established under this scheme are: 

1. Majuli University of Culture

2. Rabindranath Tagore University (Hojai)

3. Bhattadev University (Pathsala)

4. Madhabdev University (Narayanpur)

5. Birangana Sati Sadhini State University (Golaghat)

6. Aniruddhadev Sports University (Chabua)

Assam Agriculture Commission Mandate

On the other side, the state government will establish an Agriculture Commission, which will be led by an internationally renowned scientist. Below are the mandate of the Agriculture Commission:

1. Study & suggest measures for achieving self-sufficiency in agriculture, milk, egg & pork production

2. Identify constraints and devise a roadmap to achieve targets in five years 

3. Proposal for big breeding units to produce two lakh breeder piglets annually

4. Proposal for big breeding units to produce two lakh breeder piglets annually

₹ 400 crore provided under Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana to benefit around 30 lakh farmers
