BOKAKHAT: Sensation gripped Kaziranga National Park following the discovery of the dead bodies of six wild buffaloes together in water at Mona Beel under the Kohora Range on Wednesday evening. Among the deceased buffaloes, four were females and two were males.

The park authorities sent the carcasses for post-mortem examination. A committee was also formed by the park administration to investigate the cause of death. Based on preliminary post-mortem findings, it was suspected that the elephants died due to a lightning strike. Samples and data have been collected for further analysis.

According to environmentalist Apurba Ballabh Goswami, such incidents may be attributed to the high-voltage power lines that pass through the park.
