NAGAON: The Department of Women and Child Development, Nagaon District Social Welfare Office, in collaboration with the Nagaon district administration, organized a smart phone distribution ceremony for Anganwadi workers under the Poshan Abhiyan at the auditorium of Nagaon Cultural Complex on Thursday. Nagaon District Commissioner Devashish Sarma inaugurated the event, praising Anganwadi workers for their efforts in maternal and child development and implementing government schemes. He urged the workers to use the smartphones responsibly.
Local MLA Rupak Sarmah, who attended the event as the guest of honour, appreciated the Assam Government’s initiative to provide smartphones to Anganwadi workers, saying that it was a necessary tool in today’s lifestyle. He also acknowledged the workers’ social commitment to caring for infants, young children, and pregnant women. During the event, 20 Anganwadi workers from Khagarijan, Dalanghat, Nagaon Urban, and Pakhimoria Integrated Child Development Project offices, received smartphones from the MLA and District Commissioner. A total of 4,003 Anganwadi workers in the district will receive smartphones over the next 7 days.
The event also included distribution of free wheelchairs, hearing aids, and smart cans to differently-abled individuals. Other noted attendees included Additional District Commissioner Debahuti Bora, District Social Welfare Officer Bholanath Pegu, and other officials from district social welfare as well as district administration, an official press release added.
