DOOMDOOMA: Jadab Barman (97), an old resident of Sookerating No. 8, Doomdooma, passed away at his residence on Thursday morning due to old age. The strange coincidence is that his younger brother Kameshwar Barman (88) also died at his home in Guwahati a few hours before his death today. It is suspected that Jadab Barman succumbed to his mental shock after hearing his brother’s death news.
He is survived by his wife, one son, two married daughters and three sons-in-law. He came to Doomdooma during 60’s of last century and worked in a timber company. He was a successful actor and acted in many plays staged at historic Doomdooma Natya Mandir in the past.
He was a prominent member of the Doomdooma Asamiya Puja Aru Natya Mandir Samiti. He was a prominent member of the now extinct Nagara Nam Dal of Madhab Mahanta (now deceased) of Sookerating No.8.
He was one of the founders of the Doomdooma Shiva Temple and the Durga Puja Temple of Sookerating and was a member of the Sookerating No.8 Sarbajanin Durga Puja Samiti, Mahamilan Yubak Sangha, Doomdooma Sakha Xahitya Xabha, Doomdooma Namghar Samiti, Doomdooma Nagara Nam Sangha, Doomdooma Anchalik Samiti of Warriors and Senior Citizens Association, Doomdooma.
He was cremated at Doomdooma Rajahua Smashan Ghat today in the presence of many of his well-wishers.
