Sonitpur DC reviews preparedness for counting votes process

Tezpur: Deputy Commissioner of Sonitpur Manoj Kumar Deka, at a meeting held at the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s office on Friday, reviewed the preparation for the counting of votes for the Panchayat polls which will begin from 8 am of December 12. Various issues related to security, training, results declaration, engagement of counting agents and officials, provisions for drinking water and sanitation were discussed in the meeting which was attended by all authorized officers, circle officers, and officers in-charge of various cells and senior district administration officials.

Deputy Commissioner asked the authorized officers to get a thorough understanding of the counting process for smooth conduct of the counting process. Personnel to be engaged for counting will go through training batch-wise on December 10 and December 11 at the District Library Auditorium.

In a separate meeting held on Friday evening, district administration officials met with representatives of political parties and various independent candidates and briefed them about the process of counting and rules related to engagement of counting agents on the day of counting. Chairing the meeting, Deputy Commissioner Manoj Kumar Deka asked the political parties to depute only one counting agent per table while informing that independent candidates will have to be present themselves. A training session for all authorized officers was also held at the conference hall of DC’s office on Saturday. They were briefed about all the procedures to be followed for counting of ballot papers and other necessary instructions.
