DIBRUGARH: In a bid to enhance public safety and prevent road accidents, the Dibrugarh District Transport Department launched a special enforcement drive against the illegal practice of transporting passengers in goods-carrying vehicles.
Acting on the directive issued by the Dibrugarh District Disaster Management Authority, the transport officials have begun inspecting various locations across the district to curb this dangerous practice.
During the drive on Thursday, one goods vehicle was seized for illegally carrying passengers in an unsafe manner. The department also suspended the driver’s license for violating transport safety norms.
Officials stated that the practice of ferrying people in goods vehicles not only violates traffic rules but also poses a significant risk to human lives. The transport department has warned that such actions will not be tolerated and strict measures will be taken against offenders.
A spokesperson from the Dibrugarh District Transport Department said, “This is just the beginning. The drive will be intensified in the coming days, and we urge the public and transport operators to comply with safety regulations to avoid penalties.”
