Srimanta Sankardev's 573rd birth anniversary celebrated in Basudev Than Naruwa Xatra
Along with the rest of the State, the 573rd birth anniversary of Srimanta Sankardev was celebrated in the xatras and namghars in Lakhimpur district.

LAKHIMPUR: Along with the rest of the State, the 573rd birth anniversary of Srimanta Sankardev was celebrated in the xatras and namghars in Lakhimpur district. The event was also celebrated in Basudev Than Naruwa Xatra, the noted Vashnav Peeth of the north-eastern region, located in Dhakuakhana subdivision of the district. The devotees of the Xatra and the Basudev Than Naruwa Xatra Development and Management Committee observed the event on Friday and commemorated the Mahapurush by organizing the formal programmes following the religious tradition.
On the other hand, the chairman of the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC), retired IAS officer Rajiv Kumar Borah, along with his family members, visited the historic Basudev Than Naruwa Xatra for the first time on Friday after he assumed the charge of the Commission. He paid obeisance to the Almighty by offering xarai in the namghar of the Xatra. The Xatra Development and Management Committee feted the APSC chairman with phulam gamosa in the presence of Xatradhikar Bhupendra Deva Goswami, secretary Birendra Deva Goswami. Dhakuakhana SDO (Civil) Gurnel Singh, Assistant Commissioner Masi Toppo, Abhijat Borah assisted the APSC chairman during his visit to the Xatra.
