LAKHIMPUR: Health Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma took stock of the COVID-19 situation arriving in Lakhimpur district on Thursday evening. He took part in a review meeting held at the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner's office in the presence of the Deputy Commissioner Dr. Jeevan B, Lakhimpur MLA Utpal Dutta, Joint Director-in charge of the District Health Department Dr. Gunin Kumar Gogoi and other officers of the Health and other line departments.

Then interacting with mediapersons, the minister asserted that the COVID -19 situation in the State was not beyond control though the number of such patients was rising. "The Health Department machinery of the State has been ready to treat almost five thousand COVID -19 patients at present. It is expected that the current pandemic situation will improve after the month of June. Our laboratory and diagnosis system is improvised to complete all kinds of tests for the persons with suspected coronavirus exposures to detect them within three days. The COVID situation has become something critical with the returnees from other States, but our people should not panic," he added.

He further declared that legal actions would be initiated against those inmates who had shown unruly behaviour in quarantine centres violating the quarantine norms and in connection with their self-hatched issues.

Then Dr Sarma arrived in Dhemaji district at around 8pm and took stock of the COVID-19 situation in the district too. He also took part in a review meeting there in the presence of Dhemaji DC, SP, MLAs of Dhemaji and Jonai LACs, officers of health and other departments.

On the other hand, prior to attending the review meeting held in Lakhimpur, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma laid the foundation stone for the construction of newly designed project of Madhavdeva Kalakshetra at Narayanpur under Bihpuriya LAC. Though the Madhavadeva Kalakshetra was set up at Badala Padma Ata Xatra premises of Narayanpur in 2007, even fifty percent construction works of the project has not been in progress till the day. However, a new plan designing the project afresh was taken up by the existing State Government last year.

After laying the foundation stone, Dr. Sarma said that almost eighty percent construction work of the project would be developed by March next. "Though tender was invited for the construction of the project sanctioning Rs. 34 crore for it in March, the process could not be developed due to the adverse situation derived for COVID-19 and lockdown. At present our government has taken due steps to give a momentum to the establishment of the aspiring project," he said.
