State-level Bhaona convention by child artistes underway in Lakhimpur

LAKHIMPUR: A unique event on Bhaona is underway in the Dhakuakhana subdivision. This event is a State-level competitive Bhaona convention of children which began from Friday with a five-day-long programme at Sankar-Madhav Kshetra at Baligaon under the auspices of Pragatisil Srimanta Sankardeva Sangha, Dhakuakhana Zonal Committee.

The event has been organized under the management of the Baligaon Buniadi Sangha and the bhaonas will be performed by child artistes under 14 years. On Friday, the event began with the unfurling of the flag by Pragatisil Srimanta Sankardeva Sangha president Thaneswar Dutta. It was followed by naam-prasanga and recitation of the Bhagawat Puran. Academician Jagadish Gogoi released Pragati, the souvenir of the event.

In the evening, the Bhaona stage was opened with a cultural item on Bhortaal Nritya presented by the artistes of Dhakuakhana Nataraj Nritya Aru Sangeet Mahavidyalaya. Dhakuakhana SDO Arindam Baruah formally inaugurated the competitive staging of the bhaonas. In his speech, the SDO highlighted the noble contribution of Srimanta Sankardeva and Srimanta Madhavdeva to Assamese culture and the endeavors of the xatras and namghars towards conserving the contribution of the two spiritual apostles. He stated that the holding of such a Bhaona convention among children would usher in a healthy environment to the upcoming generation for the growth of their cultural temperament.

On that day, the child artistes of Dhekiakhowa Shilpi Samaj, Jorhat staged the first and foremost Bhaona of the event titled Bipra Damodar Akhyan, Dantabrakrar Mukti Labh. In addition to them, several children Bhaona teams from Shivasagar, Jorhat, Golaghat, Majuli, Dhemaji, and Lakhimpur are participating in the event.

The event will conclude on January 20 when a concluding ceremony will be held in a befitting manner in the presence of several prominent cultural activists of the State and the dignitaries of the organization.
