LAKHIMPUR: The Chandrakanta Payang Memorial Symposium and drawing competition was held in a befitting manner like the previous years on Wednesday at Obhota Sampora Rangamancha under Borshamukh area of the subdivision.

The programme was organized under the auspices of Obhota Sampora Jyoti Kristi Sangha and Obhota Sampora Bhaskarjyoti Yuva Sangha and the family of the social activist of Dhakuakhana. The agenda of the programme started with the paying of floral tribute at the portrait of Chandrakanta Payang and Rudranath Payang by teacher Diganta Kumar Prerme. It was followed by a drawing competition held among the students in two categories wherein more than 100 participants took part. The crucial programme of the event, the memorial symposium was organized on the topic: ‘The role of the parents and guardians in the creation of value-based academic temperament in students’. Professor of Paediatrics of Jorhat Medical College, Dr Pankaj Pradip Payang inaugurated the symposium which commenced with Patrisuk High School former headmaster Anil Kumar Kaman.

“Only the biological parents are not the guardians of the children. All the neighbouring adults should take care of the children to be good citizens in the society with due development of character and career. Children’s future can be moulded only when their guardians will be conscious,” remarked Dr. Pankaj Pradip Payang. He further stated that securing high marks in the exams by any means and procuring a lucrative job in future should not be the sole aim of the students. “The students should be socially responsible too along with their academic responsibilities. Only then, the society, a community or the nation will go ahead along a real path,” he said. Writer Ghankanta Prerme and journalist Rajib Baruah graced the symposium as resource persons who delivered their speeches highlighting the responsibilities of the parents with regard to shaping their wards with positive attitude and appealed to the students to be good citizens in future.
