DIGBOI: "There is no dearth of people pulling my legs for their political interest but I am firm on my way and I have been striving round-the-clock to promote and develop the Nazirating area as a hot tourist destination for domestic and foreign tourists," said Suren Phukan, MLA of Digboi.

The incumbent MLA was addressing the media along the River Dibru flowing amidst Nazirating and adjacent Dwarmara Reserve forest - a site being developed into a tourist destination. Phukan briefed about the preparation for holding a tourism festival here along the banks of the river bounded by rich flora and flanked by beautiful undulating hilly terrain and landscapes.

Meanwhile, countering the various allegations being leveled against him by a section of politically-motivated people in regard to his people-oriented activities, Phukan said that such people did not bother him as the people around him had always reposed faith in him at all times.

"Irrespective of the comments of the opposing groups, I am determined to involve people in economically-gainful activities while promoting the places and using the potential local resources for the benefit of local unemployed youths and women," said the MLA.

According to him, the area was already famous as the most visited picnic site in Digboi. It is now being promoted and developed into a tourist destination with various amenities for tourists.

"The three-day tourism fair slated from January 1 to January 3 is being organized for the first time, said the MLA.

MPs and MLAs will attend the programme along with officials of the Assam Tourism department and other relevant personalities like the Forest Man of India, Jadav 'Molai' Payeng of Majuli. Sri Sri Nahar Mahanta, Xatradhikar of the nearby Tamuli Bongaon, recently inaugurated the new tourist place formally in presence of MLA Suren Phukan.
