DIPHU: Student and youth organizations of Karbi Anglong have demanded the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) to conduct special TET for local candidates of the two hill districts of Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong.

In a joint press conference convened at the KSA office, Rongthe-ang, KSA president Simeon Rongphar told mediapersons that they had met KAAC CEM Tuliram Ronghang for immediate conduct of special TET. “The leaders of various student, youth and women organizations met CEM Tuliram Ronghang at his official chamber at the KAAC Secretariat on Wednesday and strongly demanded that a special TET for local candidates of Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong should be conducted by KAAC. To our request, the CEM gave his assurance for immediate conduct of special TET,” Rongphar said.

The student bodies like the KSA and Dimasa Students’ Union (DSU) have been pressurizing the KAAC in Karbi Anglong and NCHAC in NC Hills for immediate conduct of TET.

Rongphar also said that primary education was an inherent subject. After the signing of MoU in 1995, higher education has been an entrusted subject. The power of legislation has also been empowered to the KAAC.

“As the two hill districts of Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong are governed under 6th Schedule provision and primary education is an inherent subject of the KAAC, KSA and other organizations have been demanding that TET should be conducted separately by KAAC,” Rongphar said.

In today’s meeting, CEM Tuliram Ronghang assured to take a joint delegation of all the leaders of KSA and other student, youth and women organizations to meet the Union Human Resources Minister in New Delhi by the first week of October, Rongphar added. He also said that if the KAAC failed to conduct a special TET by October 15 then the agitating organizations would launch a strong agitation.
