JORHAT: Bhupen Dihingiya, in-charge of the Selenghat Police Outpost under the Teok Police Station in the Jorhat district, is suspected to have taken his own life with his service pistol in his room on Sunday morning. He was 32.

Jorhat Superintendent P Mohan Lal Meena said that Dihingya, who hails from Lakhimpur, had been promoted to the rank of sub-inspector last year and had been recently posted at Selenghat after serving for a short time as the in-charge of the Lahdoigarh Police Outpost.

The SP said that Dihingya has left no suicide note, nor could his colleagues throw any light on why he shot himself.

"Legal formalities are being conducted, his family has been informed and the body has been sent for post-mortem," Meena added.
