‘Swachhata Run’ to generate awareness about cleanliness, fitness held in Sivasagar

SIVASAGAR: Sivasagar district administration, in association with NGO Tipkai, organized a mini-marathon- Run for Swachhata- on Sunday with an aim to generate awareness about cleanliness and fitness among the people.

The 9-km run that began from in front of the Tourist Information Centre near Borpukhuri (Sivasagar Tank) ended near the office of the 149 battalions of CRPF situated at Joysagar.

More than 1,000 enthusiastic participants took part in the run. Sivasagar Deputy Commissioner Dr. MS Lakshmi Priya and Superintendent of Police Amitava Sinha flagged off the run in presence of Moran legislator Chakradhar Gogoi.

Speaking at the concluding programme, the Moran legislator urged everyone to make such healthy practices a day-to-day affair rather than limiting it to just one day. He also called upon everyone to create awareness about cleanliness and fitness benefits. He said health and cleanliness were vital to build a beautiful, progressive and strong nation.

Speaking on the occasion, Sivasagar Deputy Commissioner Dr. MS Lakshmi Priya said the district administration had embarked upon an ambitious project of organizing ‘Khelo Sivasagar Khelo’, a grand sporting event encompassing the schools of the district to hone sporting talents and to develop a sports culture in the district.

Dr. MS Lakshmi Priya also assured all possible cooperation to encourage the upcoming players of the district. The Deputy Commissioner also apprised about the ‘Rongpur Utsav’, which is a part of the initiative ‘Soulful Sivasagar’ to promote the tourism sector of the district. Dr. MS Lakshmi Priya also desired active participation and cooperation from everyone to make ‘Rongpur Utsav’ a grand success which will be held from January 10 to January 15 next year.

The Deputy Commissioner also said that Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal had termed Sivasagar as the ‘soul of Assam’, so it should be the solemn duty of one and all to conserve the pride of the district and work towards taking the historic district to world map.

Overwhelmed by the response in the day’s programme, the Deputy Commissioner also announced to organize a marathon christened ‘Run Rongpur Run’ in the district soon.
