KOKRAJHAR: Swima Athing Group (SAG), (The Active Leg) of Kokrajhar organized a plantation programme in the Golden Jubilee Road, Railway Flyover in Kokrajhar on Saturday with the support of Green Bodoland Mission, fostering the revival of green coverage of the district.
The theme of the plantation programme was “Let’s have a plan to plant trees for greener world” and appealed all to join the plantation programme to contribute a little in containing global warming. The Director of Green Bodoland Mission, Manaranjan Das started the plantation programme by planting a sapling. In his speech, Das said the Green Bodoland Mission was formed at the behest of BTC Chief Pramod Boro with the objective to recover the green cover of Bodoland. He said the Green Bodoland Mission had been extending support to the NGO, clubs and societies for carrying out plantation activities in the region and as part of that initiative, as many as 110 clubs and societies of Kokrajhar district have been supported with sapling, protective materials and manure. He also said the maintenance cost had also been provided for the successful clubs and societies. He called upon all to plant trees as a responsible citizen as plantation of tree is a noble task that world encourages it to counter the global warming.
Talking to media persons, secretary of SAG, A. Kr. Basumatary said the group comprising morning walkers- professors, doctors, journalists, lawyers, teachers, entrepreneurs, cine artistes and other government employees was formed way back in 2022 with the objective to aware people on healthy life, cleanliness and plantation programmes to promote clean and green Kokrajhar. He said, inspired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Swaccha Bharat Abhiyaan Mission”, the SAG had been continuing constant cleanliness drive and plantation programmes. He said, “Our noble works reached the CMO and the PMO in 2022 and the Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised our efforts in his monthly popular radio programme, “Maan ki Baat” and invited us to New Delhi and accordingly, I attended the grand 100th episode of Maan ki Baat celebration at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi in 2023,” he said adding that he was again invited to the Republic Day celebration in New Delhi in 2024. He also said the SAG will continue to carry forward their activities with noble objectives.
