Syndicate kingpin arrested in Silchar
Altaf Hussain, the controversial trader of Barak Valley was sent to three-day police custody on Thursday by a Silchar court.

SILCHAR: Altaf Hussain, the controversial trader of Barak Valley was sent to three-day police custody on Thursday by a Silchar court. Hussain, a Cachar trader was detained by police at Sutarkandi border post at Bangladesh border in Karimganj district on Wednesday . He was returning from Bangladesh. Later Silchar police took him in their custody.
Altaf Hussain, known as one of the kingpins of Burmese supari syndicate, was earlier arrested by Cachar police during the first phase of Operation all out by Assam police against illegal trading. Altaf, a leading muslim personality in Barak Valley was then escorted by crime branch of State police and even spent a few nights in jail. He was later released on bail.
However, there were more cases filed against Altaf Hussain and Cachar Police Superintendent Nomal Mahato was in search of him. Hussain had meanwhile went to Bangladesh. However, as he just entered Sutarkandi border, Karimganj police detained him. Hussain was also accused of running a fertiliser syndicate.
