HOWRAGHAT: An important meeting was held between several over ground extremist groups of Karbi Anglong and the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council authority on Sunday to maintain peace in the region during the Legislative Assembly elections. The meeting was ordered on the advice of Union Home Minister Amit Shah to preserve lasting peace in the autonomous hill districts of Assam.

The meeting was chaired by Chief Executive Member of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) Tuliram Ronghang, MP Horen Sing Bey, Superintendent of Police of Karbi Anglong, Debojit Deori and leaders of armed groups together with Karbi People's Liberation Tigers chairman Ron Rongpi, general secretary Lotichari Kanttang Bay, commander-in-chief Chaka Terang and others.

Representatives of the United People's Liberation Army, Kuki Revolutionary Army and Dimasa National Liberation Army also took part in the meeting. The meeting resolved to fulfill the demands of the armed insurgent groups at the earliest. KPLT chairman Rongpi told media persons that ground work was being done for talks with the Centre. In the meeting, the KPLT placed their demands before the council authority.
