MANGALDAI: On a sunny day in 1974, 63 students of different areas of Mangaldai took admission in Class V of Mangaldai Government Higher Secondary School. In 1981 after passing the HSLC examination they got separated as they joined different institutions to persue higher studies. After a long gap of 41 years, all the classmates -now almost in their 60s- finally reunited to spend a day to celebrate their reunion. In their reunion on December 24, they offered their 'Guru Bhakti' to their teachers (all retired now) by touching their feet and offered hearty felicitation. The teachers – Phulendra Nath Saharia, Dineswar Saharia, Rati Kanta Deka, Paramesh Nath, Sailendra Kumar Saharia, Radha Ram Bhuyan, Pabitra Kr Deka, Dhiren Kalita, Mira Deka, Bandana Goswami and Harunar Rashid Hazarika –could not resist their emotion in the form tears trickling over ther cheeks. They offered their hearty blessings to all the students.
Earlier, Vice-Principal Bhadra Bardaloi and teachers Moslemuddin Ahmed and Hemanta Kakati of Mangaldai Government HS School planted saplings in the school campus to mark this memorable moment. In this reunion, on behalf of the classmates, Dr Dhruba Jyoti Saharia offered homage to their departed classmates by lighting an earthen lamp in the traditional way. The alumni also took part in a cricket match followed by a light cultural function and a candlelit dinner.
