Tensions Flare Up Again at Assam-Mizoram Border Over Construction of Bridge

Assam - Mizoram border dispute faced a new angle over the construction of a new bridge by the govt of Mizoram in Hailakadi, the bordering district of the state.

Hailakandi: The tension in the northeastern states of India i.e., Mizoram and Assam is faced with a fresh new angle as the Mizoram government decided to create a bridge in the bordering district of the state of Assam; Hailakandi.

It is reported that Assam police is reaching out to the Government of the state of Mizoram with a notice to stop the construction works of the bridge as early as it is possible. This news has come up on the air after a few weeks of the heinous act performed in the border area of both states.

This news fueling the fire of dispute between two of these neighboring states and generating the Assam Mizo boundary issue. The issue is to be addressed by the Assam police, hence Mizoram authorities are called for so as to diminish this situation of tension and turmoil. 

However, no significant change in the movement of the Mizoram Government had come to notice so far. While conversing with the media, the Police Superintendent of the district of Hailakandi, Gaurav Upadhyay informed that the Mizoram government has tried to trespass in the vicinity areas of Assam, and hence this calls for stricter actions from the higher authorities.

It is also informed that the matter came to notice last Friday when a few of the Mizoram workers are found to be in the process of bridge construction by the Officer - in - charge of the police station of Ramnathpur. He as well as his patrolling team immediately broke in and asked to stop the construction process then and there. He is also of the opinion that no state has any legal right to conduct any kind of construction work within the boundary area of another state, that too without any prior notice or permission. 

Assam police also stated that a team of 50-60 Mizo people was seen there and some of them even entered into Assam which is considered as an act of violation by the security force which was issued to maintain peace between both of these states and to lessen the interstate conflict.
