TEZPUR: Under the initiative of the District Museum, Tezpur, and the River Project, a two-day workshop titled “Timeless Expressions: Mapping Tezpur’s Artistic Heritage” was held at the Tezpur District Museum. This workshop sought to unravel the stories etched in stone, tracing the artistic heritage of Tezpur through its magnificent sculptures and archaeological wonders.
Bringing together students, researchers, and scholars from across Assam, the workshop offered a unique opportunity to explore the region’s stone sculptures through a scientific and historical lens. It delved into the intricate process of sculpture identification, documentation, and heritage mapping, bridging the past with the present.
On Tuesday, the journey began amidst the timeless charm of Chitralekha Udyan and the ancient ruins of the Da Parbatia temple complex. Participants learned to decipher the artistry of stone sculptures, capturing their details through photographic documentation.
Today, the exploration deepened at Bamuni Hills, where the participants engaged in an immersive discussion on its remarkable sculptures. Later, at the Tezpur District Museum, they were introduced to heritage mapping, learning how to trace and preserve the narratives embedded in these historical relics.
The workshop was enriched by the insights of Dr Preeti Sharma, Associate Professor from the Department of History, Cotton University, and Jayanta Roy, a research scholar from North Eastern Hill University, who guided participants through the layers of history embedded in Tezpur’s artistic legacy.
In the valedictory session, Ankur Bharali, District Commissioner of Sonitpur, lauded the initiative, emphasizing the importance of heritage conservation and academic inquiry in the region. As a gesture of encouragement, he presented certificates to the participants, marking the completion of a journey that not only explored the past but also inspired a deeper appreciation for Tezpur’s artistic and cultural heritage.
