TEZPUR: Prepared by a team of scientists at Stanford University, USA, seven faculty members of Tezpur University (TU) have featured in the list of world's top 2 per cent scientists. The database of the independent study has been published in one of the highly rated journals, PLOS Biology.

The faculty members who featured in the prestigious list are- Prof. Ashok Kumar of the Department of Physics, Prof. ParthaPratimSahu of Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, Prof. NiranjanKarak of Department of Chemical Sciences and Prof. Ashis Kumar Mukherjee of Department of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology. In addition, Prof. R.S. Sirohi, who was a Professor of Eminence in the Department of Physics, Prof. Suvendu Bhattacharya, an adjunct professor in the Department of Food Engineering & Technology and Prof. B.M. Choudary, a distinguished professor in the Department of Chemical Sciences, brought laurels to the University by finding a place in the elite list of world's top 2 per cent scientists.

The list features more than 1,00,000 top scientists of the world and the list is created on the basis of standardized citation indicators such as information on citations (a quotation from or reference to a book, paper, or author, especially in a scholarly work.), h-index (a metric for evaluating the cumulative impact of an author's scholarly output and performance; measures quantity with quality by comparing publications to citations.), co-authorship and a composite indicator as stated in their website https://journals.plos.org/.

Apart from faculty members from Tezpur University, the list also features faculty members from Cotton University, Gauhati University, Assam University and IIT Guwahati. The list features a total of 1,494 Indian scientists.
