JAMUGURIHAT: The Women’s Cell of THB College, Jamugurihat organized an awareness programme on child marriage and superstitious beliefs at Amdara High School here on Monday. The programme aimed to educate the local community, particularly parents and students, about the adverse effects of child marriage and superstitious beliefs.
The programme began with a welcome address by Dr Navajyoti Hazarika, Assistant Professor, Department of Mathematics, THB College. Dr Rasna Rajkhowa, Assistant Professor, Department of Physics, THB College, explained the purpose of the programme. Dr Anju Chhetri, Vice-Principal and President of the Women’s Cell at THB College, presided over the event. Tikaram Chetry, Headmaster of Amdara High School, also addressed the significance of awareness and similar initiatives.
The resource person Dr Tulshi Upadhyaya, Assistant Professor, Department of Botany, THB College, delivered a thought-provoking speech on the importance of awareness and eradication of child marriage and superstitious beliefs. He emphasized the negative effects of child marriage, such as health hazards, lack of educational opportunities, and social exclusion. Dr Upadhyaya emphasized the need for education and awareness among both parents and children to combat these social evils. Dr Chabi Rani Das, Associate Professor, Dept of Assamese, also emphasized the on the importance of girls’ involvement and attendance in school and Subash Upadhyaya, Headmaster of Chabilal Upadhay ME School, also spoke on the need for awareness on age-old ills that hinder societal progress.
