
NAXALBARI: A tragic road accident took place in Naxalbari, West Bengal, when a vehicle carrying devotees from Mayong, Assam, to the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, crashed into a container truck. Three people lost their lives, and ten others were injured, including five in critical condition.
The accident took place on Sunday at Satbhai under the jurisdiction of the Naxalbari police station. A Bolero Pickup Van (AS01LC 2596) transporting 13 devotees from West Mayong Village Panchayat, Chandrapur, had a head-on collision with a container truck (UP21ET1665). Among the deceased, Niranjan Sarkar died on the spot, while Amrit Biswas and Ranju Biswas succumbed to their injuries at the hospital.
The injured have been identified as Ramlal Biswas, Shrikant Biswas, Revati Sen, Pawan Kshatriya, Ravi Malo, Krishna Das, Ranjit Biswas, Shyamal Das, and Ratan Biswas. Officials said that five injured people are in critical condition and are being treated at a nearby hospital. The local police have started an investigation, and more details are expected soon.
Meanwhile, earlier this month, in a tragic incident, a resident of Garchuk, Guwahati, had lost his life in an accident while returning from the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. The deceased, identified as Anand Jyoti Mahanta, was traveling with seven others when their vehicle met with an accident in Patna.
While Mahanta died on the spot, the other seven sustained injuries and had been admitted to a nearby hospital. The group had been heading back to Guwahati after taking a holy dip at the Kumbh Mela when the mishap had occurred.
