LAKHIMPUR: Training and demonstration programme on post-harvest machinery were organized by Regional Agricultural Research Station (RARS), North Lakhimpur under Assam Agribusiness and Rural Transformation Project (APART) at Cheraphati village on Friday. A total of 60 participants comprising farmers and farm women attended the programme.

The programme started with a welcome address by Dr Pinky Pathok, Project Associate, APART. During her address, she highlighted the objective of the training programme and explained the importance of using machineries in crop production. Dr Yater Das, Junior Scientist, RARS, North Lakhimpur briefed about best management practices of Sali paddy, including preparation of Mat Type nursery to minimize cost of cultivation per unit area.

Sanjay Kumar Yadav, Research Technician under International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), while carrying out the demonstration, discussed in detail about various machineries and equipment used in paddy cultivation right from sowing to harvesting and storage. Yadav, along with Champak Saikia, Research Technician, APART, practically demonstrated the working principle of Dry Grinding Machine and Reaper. The programme was organized with an effort to create awareness among the farmers in using modern technology for profitable paddy cultivation.
