Treat for book lovers: Dhakuakhana fair from January 7

LAKHIMPUR: With a view to attract the upcoming generation towards books and to fulfil the extensive demand of book lovers, a five-day long book fair will be organized in Dhakuakhana subdivision of Lakhimpur district for the first time. The Dhakuakhana Book Fair-2020 will be held from January 7 to January 11 at Dhakuakhana public playground.

On January 7, the book fair will start with the unfurling of flag by organizing committee president Dr. Girin Gogoi and smriti tapan by secretary Bitu Kumar Das and working president Bidya Dutta. Dhakuakhana SDO Arindam Barauah will ceremonially open the main gate of the book fair. This event will be followed by the inaugural ceremony with Dr. Girin Gogoi in the chair. The book fair will be inaugurated by noted litterateur Dr. Nirmal Sahewala while Vice-Chancellor of Majuli Cultural University, Dr Dambarudhar Nath will grace the occasion as chief guest. Deputy Commissioner of Lakhimpur Dr. Jeevan B will be present as guest of honour. A colourful cultural programme will be held from 5 pm.

On the second day, a quiz competition will be held among students as well as students’ interaction programme with Padma Shri Dr. Uddhav Bhorali, book release programme, poets’ meet to be chaired by Puspa Gogoi and cultural programme. Similarly, drawing competition among the students, interaction programme with prominent intellectual figure Homen Borgohain and staging of street play will be held as part of the third’s day agenda of the event.

On the fourth day on January 10, a poetry recitation competition among the students will be held which will be followed by a symposium on the topic ‘The future of the Assamese language’. The symposium will be chaired by litterateur Ismail Hussain while litterateur Dr. Nahendra Padun, Dibrugarh University professor Satyakam Borthakur and North Lakhimpur College (Autonomous) assistant professor Dr. Arabinda Rajkhowa will take part as resource persons. Career counsellor Dr. Buljit Burhagohain will take part in the career counselling programme which will be followed by the cultural programme of kid artiste Tulika Saikia.

On the concluding day on January 11, the open session and the concluding ceremony will be inaugurated by Moridhal College Principal Dr Kamal Gogoi while Dhakuakhana College associate professor Sewok Chandra Chutia and academician Dr. Keshab Hazarika will be present as appointed speakers. It will be chaired by Dr. Girin Baruah in the presence of Circle Officer Sayeed Wasbir Sowani, Professor Purabi Duworah, writer Purnakanta Sinte, litterateur Amiya Kumar Hundique, Dr. Padmapani and Subha Das as guest of honours.
