JAMUGURIHAT: The second triennial conference of Biswanath district Assam Nepali Sahitya Sabha(ANSS) was held at Chabilal Upadhayaya memorial auditorium, Balipokari here on October 2 with a daylong programme.

The day-long programme began with hoisting of the institutional flag by Udai Narayan Goutam, president of Biswanath district ANSS followed by offering of homage by Hemanta Bhattarai, secretary of Biswanath district ANSS. Hem Kumar Goutam, working president planted a sapling followed by lighting of ceremonial lamps in front of the portrait of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastry.

After that, the first session of the day began with Udai Narayan Goutam in the chair wherein Ghanashyam Upadhyaya, president of the reception committee forwarded a welcome address. Madan Thapa, secretary in charge of ANSS inaugurated the first session.

Durga Khatiwora, president of the state committee of the literary body graced the open session as a guest of honour and briefed about the activities of the state committee. Hemanta Bhattarai readout the secretary's report in the meeting. The second session commenced with the inauguration of a research book published by the district committee.

'Biswanathar Agrani Gorkhakhakal' -- a research-based book in Assamese -- was unveiled by Rumi Lashkar Bora. Principal of Jorhat College Dr Debabrat Bora graced the inaugural session as an appointed speaker.

The session was also addressed by Gyan Bahadur Chetry, Dr. Chintamoni Sama, Dr. Debenra Kumar Debesh; regional secretary of Sahitya Akademi, Kolkata, Dr. Narayan Upadhayaya, Rajen Sarma, Kiranbala Devi along with others. A total of 16 writers of the research book were felicitated by the district literary body. Anjan Baskota, recipient of Sahitya Akademi's Yuba Puraskar 2020 was also felicitated by the district committee with a seleng sador, citation paper, gamosa.

After the inaugural session a new committee was formed with Hem Kumar Goutam, as president, Lila Timsina as working president and Ram Kumar Dahal, secretary along with fifty one executive members. All proceedings of the meeting were carried out by Krishnaneel Karki and Hemanta Bhattarai.
