Bokajan: In a major crackdown, the Khatkhati Police thwarted a bid to smuggle a loaded 10-wheeler truck along the Assam-Nagaland border in East Karbi Anglong on Monday. Police also arrested eight persons, including the driver and the helper of the truck, in connection.

As reported, the truck (WB 19G 7465) loaded with processed tea, was on its way to Guwahati from Tinsukia. However, the driver changed course from the Numuligarh junction and started heading towards Dimapur. The owner, who lost contact with his driver, noticed the development in the GPS device fitted in his truck and alerted the Khatkhati Police of suspected hijacking.

Accordingly, the Khatkhati Police laid a trap and successfully recovered the truck while it was approaching the last police check post at Khatkhati to pass into Nagaland. Police arrested the driver Tilok Biswakarma and helper Suman Chetry from the truck.

Meanwhile, the shocking revelations made by the driver in police custody lead to the arrest of six other accomplice who assisted in the truck-jacking attempt. The arrested have been identified as Gilbert Pao, Kivi Kiho, Rana Choudhary, Swarup Sahani, Subodh Yadav and Biki Deb. All are residents of Dimapur, Nagaland.
