Two drug peddlers apprehended by Darrang Police, brown sugar recovered

MANGALDAI: The Darrang Police in a significant achievement on the last day of 2019, successfully busted an organized gang of drugs pedlars in Darrang district and recovered a huge quantity of brown sugar from their possession.

The police also arrested two notorious drug peddlers, namely Sadam Ali (29), son of Tamser Ali, and Hanif Ali (23), son of Johuruddin Ali of a remote char village Gasbari under Mangaldai Police Station. Both the arrested persons were staying at village No. 2 Kasutoli under Sonapur Police Station in Kamrup (rural) district and were carrying out smuggling of drugs.

Officer in-charge of Mangaldai Police Station, Inspector Niranjan Barua, assisted by Sub-Inspector Mahendra Sarma and Dantejit Deuri, as per the direction of Superintendent of Police Amrit Bhuyan conducted the operation. Meanwhile, both the arrested persons have reportedly confessed their involvement in the drugs peddling with their link to an international gang of notorious drugs mafia. They were produced before the judicial court on Tuesday afternoon and both were remanded to police custody for three days for further interrogation.
