UBPO demands government to notify villages, constituencies under BKWAC

LAKHIMPUR: The UBPO (United Bodo People's Organization) has reiterated its demand to notify villages and constituencies and to hold election for the Bodo Kachari Welfare Autonomous Council (BKWAC) which has been formed for the comprehensive development of the Bodo community people living in 22 districts of Assam outside BTAD as per Section 5.1 of the Bodo Peace Accord. In this connection, UBPO Central Committee president Manoranjan Basumatary, general secretary Pitambar Brahma have demanded the State government to effectuate it during the Budget Session of the Assam Assembly which started from Monday. The organization has further demanded the government to grant special packages during the current Budget Session for the infrastructural development under the BKWAC.

In addition, through a press release, the organization has demanded the government to rehabilitate the former BLT and NDFB cadres, to grant hills area tribal status to the Bodo community living in Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao districts as per Section 8 of BTC Accord and Section 6.1 of 3rd Bodo Peace Accord, to field a Bodo community leader outside BTAD as the candidate of BJP-led alliance in the upcoming Rajya Sabha election and to elect him, to form Bodo Regiment with Bodo unemployed youths, to accord land right to the traditional forest dwellers as per the Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act, 2006, to provincialize the unprovincialized schools and to appoint Bodo language professors in the colleges outside the BTAD as per Section 6.3 of 3rd Bodo Peace Accord, to release 3rd Bodo Peace Accord signatory Ranjan Daimary and his associates without any condition and to initiate step to get flood and erosion problem tagged as national problem. The president and the general secretary of the organization have demanded the government to fulfil these demands by holding serious discussion on priority basis during the current Budget Session.
