KOKRAJHAR: A team of United Bodo People's Organization (UBPO), led by president Mihiniswar Basumatary, on Tuesday visited Thulungapuri, Dotma, the burial place of Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma, five days after the requisite bill for Boro Kachari Welfare Autonomous Council (BKWAC) was passed on December 30. The team paid rich floral tribute to the great leader. All the top leaders of the organization, including advisor Bipin Goyary, offered tribute at the tomb and statue of Bodofa.

Deeply impressed with the thought and ideology of Bodofa UN Brahma, the president of UBPO, Mihiniswar Basumatary has been following his footsteps and vision to achieve their goal. Hence he came straight to Dotma to pay tribute to Bodofa as he will be the chief councilor of BKWAC.

Talking to a select group of media persons at Thulungapuri, Basumatary said that Bodofa had a dream for creation of Bodoland state through democratic mass movement and to make the Bodos a master race in the world. He said that Bodofa started the submission of 92-point charter of demands to the Government of India, that included creation of separate Bodoland state in the northern Brahmaputra Valley, creation of Nilachal Hills Autonomous District Council in the southern bank of the River Brahmaputra and inclusion of Bodos living in Karbi Anglong and Dama Hasao in ST hills list.

Basumatary said, "If it had not been for Bodofa's dream, the existing BTC or BTR and BKWAC would not have been created." He also said that they would move ahead with the ideology and teachings of Bodofa in every step.

Basumatary, who also recently elevated to the post of vice-president of BJP State committee, said that the creation of BKWAC for the Boro Kachari people living outside BTC was also a part of the strategy of Bodofa UN Brahma. He said the bill for the BKWAC was passed in the last assembly session held recently and the interim council would be formed within this month. He also said that there would be 40 members in the new council, including 36 elected members and 4 nominated. He further said that for empowering women in the field of politics, they had reserved six seats exclusively for women.

Basumatary also visited the burial site of late Brajendra Kr. Brahma, the great poet, litterateur and thinker who was also the former president of the Bodo Sahitya Sabha (BSS) at Batabari near Dotma and paid floral tribute at his portrait. He told the local people that he would try his best to beautify the vast wetland surrounding the burial ground as an attractive destination.
