MANGALDAI: With an unwavering passion to follow in the footsteps of her great-grandfather, grandfather, and paternal uncle, all of whom served with distinction in the Indian Army, budding talent Kripsita Pradhan of Udalguri etched her name in history by becoming the first female student from Assam to secure admission in the prestigious Rashtriya Indian Military College (RIMC) in Dehradun. Kripsita, a student of Maharishi Vidya Mandir, Udalguri, and the eldest daughter of Pranita Newar, an English Teacher at Rowta College Senior Secondary School, and Bhim Pradhan, an employee of the Health Department, hails from Ward No. 1, Udalguri town. She earned her place at RIMC by excelling in the entrance examination for the East Zone, encompassing the North Eastern states and West Bengal.

Established on March 13, 1922, as the Prince of Wales Royal Indian Military College by Prince Edward VIII, the Rashtriya Indian Military College (RIMC), Dehradun, was renamed after India’s independence in 1947. A Category A establishment under the Army Training Command (ARTRAC) of the Ministry of Defence, RIMC is a feeder institution for the National Defence Academy (NDA), Indian Naval Academy (INA), and the Indian Armed Forces, standing alongside elite institutions like the NDA and Indian Military Academy.

Originally founded to train Indian cadets for officer roles in the British Indian Army, RIMC now nurtures future leaders with a holistic education that blends academics, sports, and extracurricular activities to foster discipline, leadership, and a deep sense of duty. Since opening its doors to female students in 2022, RIMC has taken a historic step toward inclusivity, and Kripsita’s achievement marked a shining milestone in this journey. Kripsita will leave for Dehradun on July 22 to join the RIMC on July 26.
