ORANG: In a moment of pride for Assam, distinguished social worker and entrepreneur Khagen Choudhury from Udalguri has been conferred the prestigious ‘Bharat Gaurav Samman’ by the National Crime Intelligence Agency under the aegis of NITI Aayog. The award was presented during a solemn felicitation ceremony held on July 24 at Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra, Guwahati.

The certificate of recognition, signed by the organization’s founder and Director-in-Chief Amit Pal, acknowledges Choudhury’s outstanding commitment towards promoting humanitarian values, women and child welfare, and the overall development of society. The event was organized under the supervision of Dr Ujjal Saikia, Director of the agency.

A resident of Ward No. 4, Udalguri, Khagen Choudhury holds a Commerce degree from BH College, Haturighat, Barpeta (1986). He began his entrepreneurial journey under the name Choudhury Enterprise, and by 1989, he had also taken up various part-time initiatives. However, from 2003-04 onwards, he fully dedicated himself to the path of social service.

Choudhury’s leadership roles have spanned numerous educational and social organizations. He served as Secretary (2008) and later as President (2014) of the Sankardev Sishu Vidya Niketan Management Committee, and was appointed President of Sankardev Mission High School Committee in 2019-20. His contributions to the Lions Club, Udalguri are equally noteworthy — serving as Secretary (2012-13), President (2017-2019), and Chairperson (2017-2018). He also held the position of Secretary of Puri Sanskritic Project for two years starting in 2016.

A committed member of Patanjali Ramdev Pariwar since 1995, Choudhury has remained deeply associated with several community-oriented organizations in Udalguri, including Karunadhara Nyas Samiti (2023-24). Through these diverse platforms, he continues to work tirelessly for the betterment of society.

Upon receiving the award, an emotional Khagen Choudhury remarked, “This honour is not just a personal achievement but recognition of collective efforts. I consider it a tribute to the people and like-minded individuals who walk this path with me.”

The accolade has brought pride not only to Choudhury’s family but to the entire district of Udalguri, shining a light on the power of committed grassroots leadership.
