ULFA (I) May Attack OIL Targeting Its Officials, Assam Police Issues Alert

GUWAHATI: In a recent letter by the Assam Police to Oil India Limited, it has alerted the company about the possible attacks by the United Liberal Front of Ahom- Independent (ULFA-I) in upcoming days.

Informing about the possible threats by ULFA-I, the Superintendent of Police in Dibrugarh has recently written a letter to the Security General Manager of OIL (Oil India Limited) at the company's field headquarters in Assam's Duliajan.

The letter was issued by Assam Police on Tuesday 22 February. The possible attacks suggest the kidnappings of the OIL officials as informed by the state police.

In the letter by the Dibrugarh district special branch, the SP urged OIL to inform all its officials and employees regarding the possible attack by the banned military outfit of the state and instruct them to remain aware of the situation by strengthening the security.

According to the letter dated 22.02.22, reliable intelligence input provides indications that ULFA-I and its supporters are planning for subversive operations in Assam's Dibrugarh district.

It also reads that ULFA-I may conduct kidnapping activities and target officials from oil installations following their vested interest.

The police through the letter asked OIL to alert all its security forces deployed at major installations and other vulnerable strategic areas till Monday 28 February.

The SP further urged the OIL security general manager to expand the security of the oil rigs and workover rigs by deploying armed guards where at present unarmed local guards are working.

The Assam police alert further suggests about joint security and mobile patrolling with police officials at frequent intervals so that they can neutralize the evil activities by ULFA-I.

Meanwhile, the member of the ULFA-I publicity department Rumel Asom reacted strongly to the alert by Assam police. Asom in a statement stated that the military outfit is not planning any such activities against Oil India Limited.

He further alleged that the whole development of this alert is a result of the vested interest of some of the top Assam Police officials. Ahom said that the reason behind issuing such a letter to OIL is the financial irregularities by the state police as reported by PTI.
