Uncertain whether BJP-BPF alliance will continue in 2021 Assembly poll: BPF

KOKRAJHAR: The sweet relation between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Bodoland People's Front (BPF) has turned a little sour following the BJP governments in New Delhi and Dispur announcing to implement some of the clauses of BTR accord, including approval of naming the existing BTC to BTR, on Friday.

The relation between the BJP and BPF soured after the BJP government declared implementation of the BTR accord, including formation of Boro Kachari Welfare Autonomous Council (BKWAC) for Boro Kachari people living outside BTC. The BPF had blocked the introduction of the bill for BKWAC in the last assembly session.

The BPF, which had been in power in BTC since 2005, has been opposing the implementation of the BTR accord saying that the new accord had nothing new except renaming of BTC. The BPF has been demanding revisit of BTR accord, alleging that the new accord was formed without passing bill in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha for making it an Act. The BPF has totally rejected the new accord and accused the All Bodo Students' Union (ABSU) of compromising the separate Bodoland state issue while the ABSU and the United People's Party Liberal (UPPL) have hailed the initiative of the governments of India and Assam for implementing the clauses of the accord and said that the BTR accord would pave the way for development of the region in all spheres.

In a press held at BPF office on Saturday, the secretary of the BPF, Prabin Boro said the BJP in Assam had been playing with the alliance for their politics. He said there was doubt whether the alliance between the BJP and the BPF would continue to remain in the right track in the 2021 assembly election.

Boro said the BPF had no option but to start protest programmes against the policy of BJP in the BTC election. He said the BJP and BPF had no electoral understanding in the BTC election and would fight separately. He said the BPF would go for series of agitations from September 28 demanding early election to BTC.

Boro said the BPF wings would start protest programmes from Monday in all ten subdivisions of BTC to press for holding the BTC election on time. He said there would be sit-ins, people's rally, torch light rally, bike rally and hunger strike from September 28 to November 2 demanding early election in BTC.

Meanwhile, the ABSU Banargaon Anchalik committee on Friday welcomed the initiative of the Government of India and the Government of Assam for implementation of the BTR accord.
