BISWANATH CHARIALI: UNICEF in association with ABITA has endeavoured for the uplift of the rights of children, adolescents and women in selected tea gardens of Assam for survival, development, participation and protection by reducing inequities and inequalities based on gender, region and ethnicity with strengthened delivery mechanisms in alignment with 'Sustainable Development Goals'. A project was undertaken in this respect and the districts covered were Biswanath, Sonitpur and Udalguri while total 33 numbers of assam tea estates were covered. The new approaches aimed to achieve certain milestone component wise after completion of two years. It aimed women, new-borns, children and adolescents (girls and boys) in tea gardens to have access to quality health care services (preventive, promotive and curative) through facility and community based platforms and tea garden managements in convergence with government, to deliver quality and equity-focused health services at community level to all women, new-borns, children and adolescents in assam tea gardens.

It also aims child development and nutrition, sanitation facilities and hygienic environment in households, work places etc, appropriate pre-primary education for 'school-readiness' and quality education for improved lea UNICEF in association with ABITA has endeavoured for the uplift of the rights of children, adolescents and women in selected tea gardens of Assam for survival, development, participation and protection by reducing inequities and inequalities based on gender, region and ethnicity with strengthened delivery mechanisms in alignment with 'Sustainable Development Goals'. The new approaches aimed to achieve certain milestone component wise after completion of two yening outcomes in elementary education, child protection, etc.

To improve the situation in the tea gardens, various activities were undertaken during the period. These included weekly adolescent girls' club meeting wherein a community safe space was created in the tea garden for sharing of inter- personnel issues among girls and group- actions were undertaken on various issues pertaining to their Protection, Nutrition and WASH in the communities, Monthly meeting of Child Protection Committees (CPC), Sports workshop, exposure visit, Folklore Training, Cooking Demonstration, Kitchen Garden Training, Substance Abuse Trainings, Wall Painting. The project covered as many as 11 numbers of tea gardens in Biswanath district. It included Bargang, Boroi, Behali, Duffkagurh, Halem, Mijicajan, Monabarie, Nya Gogra, Pertabghur, Bormahjan and Dekorai.

On the other hand, a news magazine namely Mukta Aakash will be published every month. It will be a platform for children, where they can share their opinion and about their overall development and the goal is to give them a place where they can assure their right to participate in their development.
