GUWAHATI: Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari announced a string of ambitious road projects worth Rs. 80,000 crore for Assam in a virtual address at the Advantage Assam 2.0 summit. The planned initiatives are aimed at drastically enhancing the state's infrastructure, such as a tunnel beneath the Brahmaputra River and an elevated corridor at Kaziranga National Park.

Gadkari pointed out that in the next 15 years, his ministry aims to finish projects worth Rs. 3 lakh crore in Assam, reflecting the government's focus on developing transportation infrastructure in the state. Some of the new projects that are to be initiated include the Guwahati ring road, the Brahmaputra tunnel, and the Kaziranga elevated corridor, all aimed at improving connectivity and boosting economic growth.

The minister also noted that work is already in progress on projects valued at Rs. 60,000 crore, which are at various stages of completion across the state.

In addition to the road projects, the second day of the Advantage Assam 2.0 Investment and Infrastructure Summit saw the signing of five significant Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs). These agreements include some of the largest sectors such as healthcare, education, energy, and industry. These ongoing initiatives reflect Assam's growing investment portfolio and status as a key contributor in India's economic growth.
